Hutsul Mountain Culture & Traditions
To e-mail us:
Located in western Ukraine, many Hutsul communities like Kosiv, Kolomiya
and Yaremche are where you will find the most authentic handicrafts and folk
traditions in all Ukraine. The beautiful Carpathian Mountains are an
inspiration to these artists and keep the spirit of the Ukrainian identity alive.

Who is a Hutsul?

The Hutsuls are an independent mountain
people who know how to survive protect
themselves. A Hutsul has never been
segregated from Ukraine, or the Ukrainian
language. Over time, people from many
countries fled hardship to the refuge of the
Carpathians. Mountain life in all countries
have similar qualities and traditions, as
natural resources dictate life. According to,
Roman Mihailovich, the language and
culture of the Hutsuls have stayed Ukrainian
over the years, no matter who joined them.
